IUP’s STEAMSHOP: Shaping Innovation and Expanding Its Horizon

If you’ve got a creative idea IUP’s STEAMSHOP can equip you with the tools and skills needed to bring it to life. STEAMSHOP, located in the Robertshaw Building, is a makerspace that offers training and equipment for digital fabrication, including 3D printers, laser cutters, and a CNC router. Exciting changes are happening as we expand our mission to benefit regional businesses, individuals, and entrepreneurs, thanks to the recent funding awarded by the Southwestern Pennsylvania New Economy Collaborative’s Build Back Better Regional Challenge grant (award 01-79-15316 URI 121596 from the U.S. Economic Development Administration, U.S. Department of Commerce). As we step into the role of an Innovation Accelerator for the grant, we’re bringing innovation to the forefront. New additions include collaborative robots, advanced milling equipment, and frequent workshops designed to empower your innovative journey.

We are also here to support budding entrepreneurs. STEAMSHOP will be hosting workshops that cater to individuals aspiring to launch their own businesses. Furthermore, we will soon be offering community memberships for access to the facility. Our workshops will encompass learning the intricacies of digital design software, the operation of fabrication equipment, and the principles of design thinking. You can find more information on these workshops and membership details on our website: www.iup.edu/STEAMSHOP.

Mark your calendars for our upcoming event:

  • Laser Cutting Open House: On November 3rd, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, we invite you to join us in Robertshaw Room 25 to explore the possibilities of laser cutting technology and see how it can bring your ideas to life.

At IUP’s STEAMSHOP, we are not just a space; we are a community of innovators, creators, and entrepreneurs. We hope you will join us in shaping the future and turning your visions into reality.
