Indiana County Unemployment Rate Falls to 3.7% in June 2026

Indiana County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate declined to 3.7% in June 2026, continuing an improvement from 4.6% in May and 4.7% in April. The June rate was also down from 4.6% one year earlier, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry’s Center for Workforce Information & Analysis.

Seasonally adjusted employment among Indiana County residents reached 34,400, an increase of 800 from June 2025. The number of unemployed residents declined from 1,600 a year ago to 1,300, while the county’s civilian labor force increased from 35,200 to 35,800. These figures indicate that more county residents were in the workforce and more were employed than during the same period last year.

Indiana County’s 3.7% seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was lower than Pennsylvania’s June rate of 4.1% and the national rate of 4.2%. It was also slightly below the Pittsburgh Metropolitan Statistical Area’s rate of 3.9%.

Separate nonfarm employment estimates showed the Indiana Micropolitan Statistical Area with 29,700 jobs in June. That represented a decrease of 900 jobs from May, but an increase of 400 jobs compared with June 2025. Pennsylvania added 9,500 jobs during the month and 47,900 jobs over the year.
The difference between the employment measures is important. Labor-force statistics count employed residents by where they live, including self-employed individuals and those who commute outside the county. Nonfarm job estimates count payroll positions located within the local labor market. Both measures are subject to revision during annual benchmarking.

Overall, the June report shows meaningful year-over-year improvement in Indiana County’s labor market. Resident employment increased, unemployment declined, and the county’s unemployment rate remained below both the state and national averages. While total nonfarm jobs decreased from May, the county continued to post a net employment gain compared with June 2025.
