Education in Indiana County doesn’t end at the high school level. Indiana County boasts several fine vocational and technical schools and is home to several university and college campuses. Students of all ages can find a class or course that inspires and challenges them to further their education or career goals.
As companies and businesses continue to grow in Indiana County, so does its leading employer, Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), looking forward to celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2025. IUP enrolls more than 10,000 students at the undergraduate and graduate levels, who come to IUP from almost every state in the commonwealth and from 50 countries from all over the world. IUP was the first university in the State System of Higher Education to offer doctoral degrees; it currently has more than 140 undergraduate majors, 60 master’s programs, 14 doctoral degrees and a host of certificates and non-degree programs, including paramedic training and municipal police training. In addition to its outstanding academic offerings, IUP contributes a great deal to the cultural and entertainment climate in Indiana County, offering some 400 concerts, films, lectures, athletic events and other programming throughout the year, all open to the community. IUP’s Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex offers a state-of-the-art venue for both entertainment and conferences, bringing thousands to the community each year for events hosted there. IUP also offers two museums with diverse types of exhibitions, free to the community.
With IUP as the crown jewel of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education’s network of 14 colleges and universities, Indiana County is well-heeled from and education perspective. There’s also the Indiana County campus of Westmoreland Community College, Cambria-Rowe Business College, the Indiana County Technology Center and seven vibrant and robust school districts strategically located throughout the county that provide an unparalleled K-to-12 public education experience. Calvary Baptist Academy, the Indiana Wesleyan School, Seeds of Faith Christian Academy and St. Bernards Learning Center offer education with spiritual overtone.
