Indiana County shines all year long but being known as the “Christmas Tree Capital of the World” and Jimmy Stewart’s hometown, the holiday season brings about special opportunities for celebration. With so many exciting events to choose from, your November social calendar is sure to fill up quickly!  Adults can kick-off the month with the taste of locally crafted beer & spirits during Downtown Indiana’s Wine & Spirits Walk (November 3) or by participating in the InFirst Bank Veteran’s Marathon, Half-Marathon or Marathon Relay, hosted by the Indiana Road Runners Club (Nov. 5). Shifting gears to the holiday shopping season, remember to shop local and support Indiana County’s unique businesses and specialty shops to find that perfect gift for someone special. Check out the tourist bureau website for more locations, but just to name a few, be sure to visit the William & Mary Gift Shoppe Christmas Open House (Nov. 3 & 4), Smicksburg’s Old Fashioned Country Christmas (November 4-5 & 11-12), Christmas Open House at Dillweed Bed & Breakfast & Trailside Shop (November 18 & 19) and the Annual Cookie Tour in Smicksburg (December 2). Enjoy family fun festivities at the annual Lucy Donnelly Holiday Kick-off Parade (November 17) and the First Commonwealth Bank “It’s A Wonderful Life” Festival (Saturdays Nov. 18 – Dec. 16), which carry the holiday cheer throughout the entire season with various activities and events. Marvel at the 30’ LIVE Christmas tree, holiday light displays & window decorations, visit with Santa, roast marshmallows…the list goes on! Be sure to pick up a brochure, complete with a map, which highlights the festivities & special events happening throughout the season. You won’t want to miss the 8th Annual Holiday Wheels & Thrills Community Model Train Display featuring a Holiday Quilt Display by the Indiana, PA Quilter’s Club, located at the Indiana Mall, beginning Saturday Nov. 18 and open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through December 17. Admission is free and donations are accepted with proceeds going to The Teddy Bear Fund Drive. Additional  holiday traditions include the Evergreen Garden Club’s Tinsel Time (Dec. 7) and the Christmas Open House at the festively decorated Clark House (Dec. 8).
