ICTB Update
What is America250PA Indiana County? In 2026, America will be celebrating the 250th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence (July 4, 1776 – July 4, 2026), also known as the Semiquincentennial. The Indiana County Commissioners adopted the resolution to join the America250PA Commission and to encourage all Indiana County residents, businesses and organizations to begin planning now, for this important event in our country’s history! Please follow the “America250PA Indiana County” Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100095375533363 to keep informed of the exciting plans as they develop, not only for Indiana County, but also Pennsylvania and the USA!
The Daughters of the American Revolution Indiana County Chapter will be dedicating an America 250 Revolutionary Patriot Plaque to Indiana County on November 11, 2024 following the Veterans Day parade. The plaque will be installed at the Indiana County Courthouse and the Indiana County Commissioners will present a proclamation and acceptance. The plaque will honor at least 140 Revolutionary patriots that are buried in Indiana County cemeteries. The patriots participated in the Revolutionary war and most likely were the pioneers who were the first residents of Indiana County along with the Native Americans. A Memory Medallion will be placed on the plaque with a QR code that can be scanned with a smart phone to allow viewing of the 140 names and burial places of the patriots. The members of the DAR of Indiana County will celebrate in colonial dress along with the Indi-Anna Chapter of Sweet Adelines International, the Laurel Highlanders Pipes & Drums, the American Legion and state and county representatives. The public is invited to the dedication service. The dedication service will be the kick-off to other county celebrations and events for America 250PA.
How will you celebrate our country’s Semiquincentennial? Did you know that townships, municipalities and non-profit organizations can all sign a resolution to join the America250PA Commission and Indiana County’s efforts?
