Expanding Horizons: New Corporate Hangar at Jimmy Stewart Airport

This summer, Indiana County’s Jimmy Stewart Airport is breaking new ground—literally—with the construction of a 100 × 120‑foot corporate hangar, an ambitious addition poised to elevate regional aviation services. Approved in May 2025, the project features space for private aircraft, pilot’s office, storage room, bathroom with shower, MEP room, conference area, and adjacent parking lot. Francis J. Palo of Clarion will serve as general contractor for $2.289 million, with Leverknight Electric, MARC Service, and First American handling electrical, mechanical, and plumbing trades.

“Today’s vote marks a turning point,” says Mike Keith, Chairman of the Indiana County Commissioners Office. “We’re moving into phase two, adding not just a hangar, but space that supports corporate needs and community engagement”.

Commissioner Bonni Dunlap adds, “This corporate hangar is more than storage—it’s a centerpiece of our master plan to serve larger aircraft, attract aviation businesses, and support training programs.”.

Funding comes through a mix of Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program and Commonwealth Finance Authority grants, aligned with previously approved $1.5 million in state Aviation Development funds—plus matching contributions—to develop up to 50 acres around the airport into a land development zone.

Once complete in late 2025, this hangar will complement planned T‑hangars and pave the way for flight‑training, aerospace maintenance, and community STEM events. It signals Indiana County’s evolution from a quaint general aviation hub to a forward‑looking business aviation asset—a fitting tribute to Jimmy Stewart’s legacy of service and aviation spirit.
