The Indiana County Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit, non-partisan organization created June 19, 1912, to advance the economic, cultural, and civic welfare of Indiana County. The organization offers a unified voice for our members and the community through its advocacy efforts, it is also a leader in workforce development and is a reliable source of information.
The Indiana County Chamber of Commerce spearheaded the first county-wide workforce initiative for high school students. Indiana County like many areas across the country has faced a workforce shortage in recent years with quality candidates for employment decreasing in number. The Chamber partnered with all seven Indiana County school districts to create the Indiana County READY™ program, a brand-new workforce initiative for juniors and seniors. The voluntary program assessed students throughout the entire school year on the categories of reliability, work ethic, communication, respect, professionalism, and attendance. These essential skills are incorporated into classroom lessons. With the addition of the Junior Chamber, this program has been expanded to include input from local high school students.
As a community partner, we expanded our advocacy efforts with the creation of events such as the Candidate’s Forum, which is open to the public and designed to educate our community on the platforms of each candidate. The State of the County Address offers the community an opportunity to address the County Commissioners on topics that impact our area. As an advocate for the advancement of women the Chamber annually holds the Women’s Summit, featuring guest speakers and workshops geared toward the professional development of women. Our Chamber continues to be a unified voice for our business community on pending legislation, often partnering with local officials, county organizations, and school districts.
The Chamber continues to provide business-building, networking events as well as various mediums to promote the area and our members and the community. We created a Facebook group titled “Indiana County Shop Local” which allows businesses to promote what products and services they offer. This group continues to be very active with nearly 3,000 members in our small community. We led economic recovery in the face of adversity, with our Indiana County Road to Recovery Bulletin This weekly bulletin featured information and links for any resources that businesses needed during the shutdown, tips, and information from representatives at our local hospital, articles from state and county leaders. The organization continues to be a resource for credible information, by holding an open forum; the Indiana County Road to Recovery webinar series, bringing local authorities, medical professionals, and educators to address the concerns of the community.
