Tony Palamone Retires from the IUP SBDC After 25 Years of Service

In 1997, Anthony Palamone was appointed the Director of the Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) Small Business Development Center (SBDC). Small Business Development Centers provide counseling and training to small businesses, including working with the United States Small Business Administration (SBA) and the network of Pennsylvania Small Business Development Centers to develop and provide informational tools to support business start-ups and existing business expansion.

Over the years Tony has consulted with individuals, entrepreneurs, and small business owners regarding starting and / or expanding their business. Usually, the annual caseload handled by the IUP SBDC exceeded over 150 clients annually. In addition, Tony would conduct seminars and other public outreach efforts and oversee the work of staff and interns. The IUP SBDC is a primary liaison between IUP’s Management Services Group clients and external groups, i.e., U.S. Small Business Administration, Indiana County Center for Economic Operations, etc.

Prior to his arrival at IUP, Tony was a Visiting Assistant Professor / Instructor with the Management Department at IUP.

From 1974 – 1975 Tony was an Assistant County Planner with the Indiana County Planning Commission. In that position Tony prepared feasibility studies on various county service functions including solid waste management and residential housing needs for the elderly. Tony also wrote grants in that position.

In 1974 Tony received his M.A. in Geography and Regional Planning at IUP as well as his B.A. in Geography in 1971. Tony received his M.B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Business in 1984.

Over the years Tony served as a director of several organizations and as a Consultant in Private Practice. Tony’s areas of focus have been strategy product development, innovation, entrepreneurship, finance, community development and 2nd stage growth issues.

In his retirement, Tony intends to return to his business consulting skills.
